I Want To Be That Person God Forgives, a poem by Drem

I Want To Be That Person God Forgives, a poem by Drem

Written June 9, 2016

“I want to be that person

who opens and closes

their front door.

Who goes outside,

feels the sunshine

and feeds their garden plants

with water

from a crystal pitcher.

I want to be that person

who sits on their veranda

and admires the architecture

of the turn of the century building

their across from

while half listening

to their mother

who’s complaining on the phone

about her nosy neighbor.

I want to be that person

who goes jogging with headphones on

listening to Billy Joel,

or Beyonce

or Iggy Pop.

Keeping track of their steps

on an overpriced iWatch.

I want to be that person

who enters the doors

of their church

and hears the voice of God saying

“It’s not your fault.

It’s not your fault, Drem.

Don’t be ashamed.

Drem, I love you.

I see you and I hear you.

It’s not your fault, Drem.

No need to cry.

You don’t need forgiveness.

You’re free and a child of mine.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you, Drem.”

  1. You are a very special person, Drem. When G-d made us, he put a little of himself, the Divine spark, into each of us, so that we, in effect, are created in His image. If I can feel your sorrow and pain through your writing, how much more so can He feel your sorrows in His own realm. And it pains him greatly that His creations dampen that spark and follow evil, instead of igniting that spark. Your candle images here reflect the inner sense of truth. He knows your sorrows and it saddens him deeply that the evils of others do such things. Those ways don’t last. But his love for you, as well as for all under His heavens and upon his earth, does.
