Sometime’s a photograph doesn’t have to be amazing at first glance to still make your heart happy. This is an example of that.

I took this at my cousin’s wife’s birthday party. They just had a baby boy after a very hard few years. They lost their first gift from God and it was a such a terrible, terrible tragedy. I don’t know how we made it through, let alone them. Tears fell from everywhere and no prayer in the world made it feel any better. But, they held strong.

They held strong and now have a baby boy. And they made it another year. So my cousin, in celebration of new life and survival, threw his lovely wife a small birthday party.

That small birthday party turned into about 20+ people. And he only bought enough desert for one person! That’s what you see in the picture.

The cake is from him, her husband. One cookie represents their Guardian Angels and Jesus who wiped their tears and held them up, one is from the son they lost, and one is from the son they now have.

His sister ran out and bought a cannoli cake so we all didn’t starve. 😛

Anyway, it was a great night. I hope we have more great nights like that.

  1. You further honor the one missing (…), and those present, with your beautiful portrayal of the continuance of family and life, and the beauty of experiencing all of its attendant ups and downs; lives, loves, and losses.
