In Reflection On The Recent Shootings (From A New Yorker), blog post by Drem

I don’t watch the news because I’m a manic depressive.
I am just learning about the shootings today.
It is strange because I wrote a poem about this type of thing last night… I think I might be psychic. Seriously.

And if you read that poem (Kill Yah, police brutality poem by Drem) please see the top where I say that it in no way condones violence against police. It was a piece inspired by victim Eric Garner of my hometown and I didn’t know about the recent shootings until now.

Anyway, my only way to act is through my art. I am a mere poet who irl is an art curator here in NYC.

I would have been at the protests/vigils (hate vigils, but whatever) if I knew and if I was physically well (I’m on chemo. I have an excuse).

Now praying has done me no good.

But,

I pray for you that you can act and be the change, and that this horrific world we live in that we witness with our sore bloodshot eyes motivates you to be that change.

Don’t just stand there.

MOVE.

Either through words or paint or signs or feet or ballot.

MOVE.

xoxo

Drem
