I Don’t Write Love Poems

〈 I don’t write love poems because I don’t know what love is.

〈 I don’t write love poems because I don’t want to remember a time when I thought I had love and knew what it was.

〈 I don’t write love poems because when the feeling inevitably leaves, I’m left with memories and I don’t need extra words floating around forever in my books about them.

〈 I don’t write love poems because I hate being tricked. Love has been the greatest lie of my life.

〈 I don’t write love poems because love symbolizes control. I don’t like being controlled.

〈 I don’t write love poems because I don’t want to feel love.

〈 I don’t write love poems because I feel too much.

〈 I don’t write love poems because I don’t want to feel.

    1. Thank you David!
I’ve been working on this since I started this site. So many people write love poems and I’m just like- bah humbug!
It started out as a list. And before I knew it, it became something a little more so I called it a poem of sorts.

Thank you as always for your support. I care that you read my work. It makes me feel a lot less alone. Believe me.

  1. You just wrote one, listing all the frustrating things about love. I also find love to be the opposite of control….it’s generally totally out of control, random, unseen and wholly anarchic! 🙂

      1. And none of those tend to last forever, they change, evolve. Use it as means to an end. Anger in my experience can fester and be the worst thing in the world. Use it, change it, mould it.

      2. Anger is not a negative emotion. It is part of the human experience. To not feel some emotions deemed “unhealthy” by the psychiatric establishment leads to a never-ending numb where full joy can not be experienced.

      3. And nobody said anything about festering except you. I don’t appreciate preachy comments. I realize you may read my work and think you know me because my work is so honest. But, you in fact, don’t know me.

  2. Your words “I hate being tricked” touched me. So many of us fall for the deception of others for the word “love” is like a magnet to those who never experienced true love. I know… I feel for that trap too. Thanks for sharing. I pray that more will come to know the True Love of God who will never deceive us like man. God bless you!
