Being Pain, a poem and prayer to God by Drem

Yesterday traffic was pretty flat. Nothing gained much traffic. Either people weren’t on, or what I uploaded just wasn’t good. One poem I uploaded in the past took a few days to gain traction. The Internet is weird. Who knows. I’m not going to be upset or feel like a failure over it. Anyway, I’m just waking up. Ever have wake-up depression? It’s weird. And hurts.

This one I wrote when I woke up and out of anything that could make my physical pain from my chronic illness any better. Forgot to pick up my prescription. It was my fault. I actually prayed. I took a pen, and picked up my journal that was so heavy, and scribbled this down in nearly illegible writing. It was physically hard to write. But I did it.

Autoimmune diseases suck.

If you find the below interesting, comment so I know you’re there.

It’s a little trite, I admit.

Being Pain, a poem by Drem

April 25, 2015

“Oh Jesus Christ Almighty,

save me from my body.

Laying here in the bed,

my pain is too bad.

I separated from it.

That’s not a sin.

I checked.

I can’t live in this.

I separated from it.

You take it

and make it better.

Please, fix it.

Make my body feel normal

when I’m in it.

Make it so I don’t need pills

and infusions

to function.

Make it so I can walk,

speak,

and see normally.

Take away,

please,

even 1/5th of my suffering.

Because all I am,

when I’m in me

is pain.”

  1. I really enjoyed how this allows the reader to get in your body and feel what you feel.

I also thought it was interesting when you used “I separated from it.” to end the first and second stanza.

BUt I feel that the most important part is
    “You take it

    and make it better.

    Please, fix it.

    Make my body feel normal

    when I’m in it.

Make it so I don’t need pills

    and infusions

    to function.

Make it so I can walk,

    speak,

    and see normally.”

I think that in and of itself is a poem. So, you wrote a poem in a poem.

      1. Well, I’m glad you made it here! I have like 300 posts. A lot get forgotten about, even by me. When I started doing this, I was just doing poetry and the occasional blog journal entry type thing. It wasn’t like this now where I post pictures and quotes and inspiration things, etc. Also, did you notice my site got a makeover?

  2. Yes! I meant to comment on that earlier– I guess I got side-tracked! I like it, alot! I liked the both of them. I definitely like the black background. It’s really good against the artwork and the artistic nature of the site. I’m glad you’re using that. Now I don’t want to comment as much, so I’m not commandeering your “Recent Posts” addition.
